Our APPROACH
What is ergonomics?
Ergonomics is the study of how equipment and furniture can be arranged so you can do work or other activities more efficiently and comfortably. It is the science of fitting the task to the person, not forcing the person to fit the task. An ergonomic assessment will include evaluation of your work station- chair, desk, computer, monitor, lighting, mouse, and keyboard. Personal factors such as height, job tasks, and areas of pain will also be taken into consideration when ergonomic modifications are recommended. We will identify ergonomic risk factors from exposure to excessive force, repetition, contact stress and sustained posture.
What is proactive ergonomics?
Proactive ergonomics identifies ergonomic risk factors and reduces them through engineering and behavior modifications BEFORE an injury occurs. This is the optimal time to address your work station, prior to the onset of any major pain.
Prevention is key!
What is reactive ergonomics?
Reactive ergonomics only addresses ergonomic risk factors AFTER an injury has occurred. If you currently have pain or discomfort, we will make modifications to help decrease stress on the damaged tissues. However, you may also need to seek care from a physician if an injury has already occurred.
What are individual risk factors?

Individual risk factors are poor work practices, poor fitness, and poor health habits that contribute to the development of MSDs. Many of these things can be modified as you become more mindful and knowledgeable about the importance of creating even “wear and tear” on your body. Along with physical changes, prioritizing stress management is also important but often forgotten. As part of your assessment, we will delve into simple habits that you can implement to help yourself!
